More Billie Departure Coverage

As expected, news of Billie Piper’s departure at the end of Series 2 has brought widespread media attention.

The BBC issued a Press Release on Thursday, covering the decision and also including some information about the final episodes of Series 2, so might want to avoid it at the moment. However Russell T Davies is quoted on the departure:

“It has been a wonderful experience working with Billie – we will miss her – and wish her all the success in the world for her future.

However, the Doctor Who team have had a whole year to plan this final scene and have created a stunning exit for Rose Tyler.

The Doctor lives a dangerous life and when Rose joined him on his adventures she was aware of this. With a series climax called Doomsday on its way, I can’t guarantee who will survive and who won’t, but I can assure you the TARDIS is going on its scariest journey yet!”

The release also notes that Series 3 will begin filming later in the Summer.

Coverage of the story continues in the usual main web outlets such as, Sky News, ITN News and, where Daniel Woolstencroft notes:

Piper’s exit has been handled better than former Doctor Christopher Ecclestone’s [sic] – who was misquoted by the BBC regarding his reasons for leaving – but it is still slightly embarrassing for them after Billie’s previous statements regarding her appearance in the third season, and future with the show. It appears that, once again, they’ve not been capable of keeping the lid on things.

Of course, we don’t yet know the whole story…

Finally, the BBC Newsround website features a photo appreciation of the Rose actress’ “Best Bits” – seriously – with 11 photos dedicated to her time with the Ninth and tenth Doctors.

And while we’re here, is a site worth bookmarking in order to keep up to date with the lovely actress’ future career once she departs Doctor Who. You may be interested to know that she has more in mind than just work, post-Who:

She told OK!: “I’d like to travel. I’ve done a bit but I want to explore India and Africa and have a proper experience. I don’t just want to go for ten days, I want to go for three weeks or a month and just live it and experience it all.”

We’ll be looking later on at some of the potential replacements for Billie Piper…
