The Original Season 27!

Following news that the Seventh Doctor would get his own series of Lost Stories, producers of Doctor Who audio drama Big Finish have announced the name of the actress set to play the Time Lord’s companion, Raine.

Raine Creevy is a young, sophisticated safecracker, played by Beth Chalmers.

“Raine is sort of a beautiful flower growing on a bomb site,” explains script editor Andrew Cartmel. “Her father is a dodgy character with underworld connections in London, and her background is in that milieu. But her parents wanted her to have a different and better life, so she’s received the best education and been groomed for posh society. Of course, Raine being Raine she’s reacted against this and she’s developed her own taste for danger and excitement.”

As revealed in Doctor Who Magazine many years ago, the original Season 27 – in the early stages of production when the show was cancelled in 1989 – would have seen the end of the Seventh Doctor, with the intention that he would forcibly instigate a regeneration in order to recover  from a psychic attack. It seems likely that this won’t occur during Sylvester McCoy’s lost season of adventures.

Meanwhile Big Finish have announced that over 500 people entered their recent Short Trips competition. Big Finish will be releasing four double CDs featuring winning entries which will be read by well known actors from the world of Doctor Who, including the Sixth Doctor himself, Colin Baker!
