Following in the footsteps of his Eighth, Ninth and Tenth incarnations and having a romantic relationship with his companion is not on the to-do list for the new Doctor, says Matt Smith.
Smith told the Chicago Sun Times that such a romance could only go “so far.”
“There is always room for romance in Doctor Who but to be honest, the idea of the companion and the Doctor getting together is a bit of a tired story by now.”
However if recent press stories are to be believed, romance isn’t off the cards for Matt himself – the star of Doctor Who has been linked to model Daisy Lowe recently, although her publicist firmly states:
“They know each other through mutual friends. They’re not dating, they’re just having fun.”
Even more interesting for various papers is the realization that Smith might have had a brief relationship with former Rose Tyler actress Billie Piper in 2006; the pair have worked together on both the Sally Lockhart adaptations on BBC One (The Ruby in the Smoke and The Shadow in the North) as well as The Secret Diary of a Call Girl.
This is of course excellent fodder for the gutter press, so keep an eye out for more of this sort of nonsense as Matt becomes more and more famous for being the Doctor.
