As part of his mammoth spoiler free Torchwood Series 4 pre-production chat to SFX, Russell T Davies has been talking about how the show has developed since he moved out to the USA in summer 2009.
Thanks to the success of Children of Earth, it seems that Russell was able to begin planning the new series, despite being based in the USA and likely being mindful of how the production setup would be quite different to the Cardiff-based productions.
“I’d already moved out here [to LA] and it’d sort of been half in development, and then once those viewing figures came in it went into proper development,” he revealed.
As you may know, Torchwood series 4 is a co-production by BBC Wales, BBC Worldwide and US network Starz. Popular American script writers are apparently being lined up, with Davies currently unsure as to which episodes he’ll be writing thanks to the “writers’ room” arrangement.
“That’s still [to be confirmed], to be honest. I’d love to write more, but we’ve got a lot of interest from other writers, and I’m happy showrunning the whole thing, so… depends how it pans out, really! Plenty of time to decide.”
As ever, John Barrowman and Eve Myles will be returning as Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper in 2011 for Torchwood Series 4, along with a new cast.
