The Girl Who Waited

Today has been full of exciting news.

Doctor Who will be back next month, Karen Gillan will return for series 7, and two new trailers have launched with appearances from the Silence, Cybermen and a very sad-but-creepy clown.

Furthermore, the BBC website has released a guide to the remaining episodes with the title of episode ten: The Girl Who Waited. No prizes for guessing who that’s about.

Amy was left seeking therapy after a blue police box fell out of the sky in 1996. Twelve years later, she saw her Raggedy Doctor again when he stopped the Earth being blown up by the Atraxi. But then he went off again for a “quick” hop to the moon. Which took two years.

Amy Pond is definitely The Girl Who Waited. But could this be a case of smoke and mirrors? You never know when Steven Moffat’s concerned!

The Girl Who Waited is written by Tom MacRae (The Rise of the Cybermen/ The Age of Steel) and directed by Nick Hurran (The Prisoner), and is bookended by Mark Gatiss’ Night Terrors and Toby Whithouse’s The God Complex.

MacRae, who also wrote The Crash of the Elysium, recently said to The Telegraph:

“No one knows anything about my episode… I’m amazed we’ve kept it this secret because there’s a really big surprise in it. All I’ll say is that it’s an unusual episode and really great.”

Matt Smith also told Wired that “Karen puts in the performance of her life” in the “mad, trippy episode.”

When he’s not watching television, reading books ‘n’ Marvel comics, listening to The Killers, and obsessing over script ideas, Philip Bates (Kasterborous' former Editor) pretends to be a freelance writer. He enjoys collecting everything. He is the co-founder of The Doctor Who Companion:
