Daleks in the Simpsons!

It is sometimes said that the sincerest form of flattery is imitation and Doctor Who is a television show that is regularly targeted.

One of the common perpetrators is The Simpsons, who like to throw in a Doctor Who reference to their show as often as they can. This can be put down to the popularity of the show over in the USA and also due to a report that The Simpsons creator Matt Groening is a Doctor Who fan (the other show that he helped create called Futurama has a main character called Leela and plenty of other Doctor Who references so this could well be true!).

Comic Book Guy has been seen with a wheel barrow full of tacos for a Doctor Who marathon, Tom Baker can be seen signing memorabilia in the episode “Mayored to the Mob”, the fourth Doctor is seen captured and shrink wrapped by Comic Book Guy in “Treehouse of Horror X”, Consulting Producer Don Payne put the phrase “He will knock for times” as his middle name in the credits of one 2009 episode and most recently, in the episode “Holidays of Future Passed”, London is seen to be patrolled by Daleks sporting police helmets.

The blink-and-you’ll-miss it scene is very cute and is a nice nod from the States back to Great Britain.

(With thanks to Joe)

What happens when an eight year old kid watches the 1993 repeat run of Planet of the Daleks? He pretty much ends up here writing about the show that grabbed hold of him and never let go!
