Despite the reports last week fuelling the rumour that Neve McIntosh would be returning to Doctor Who to reprise her character Madame Vastra, the actress herself seems to be slightly bewildered by the claims and is denying their validity and their source.
The claim was made by The Daily Star newspaper last week when it ran a story regarding the return of Madame Vastra to Doctor Who and a rumoured storyline that she would fall for the Doctor’s new companion to be played by Jenna Louise- Coleman.
McIntosh later updated her Twitter account claiming that she did not know what the newspaper was talking about and that she had not been asked to come back. It is possible however that she is covering her tracks on Moffat’s command to keep every little detail of the new series hush-hush, but this time around, it could simply just be a rumour that got out of hand.
Or maybe there is a Silurian or two that will make an appearance in the next series but not in the shape of Madame Vastra. Previously, Mr Moffat has confirmed that he does like the Victorian Silurian that he created and would not be against writing her new material:
“I certainly wouldn’t be averse to them [Madame Vastra and her maid Jenny] returning. It’s just a thing that worked, isn’t it? I love that Victorian setting, and having kicked it out of Sherlock Holmes I can always kick it in somewhere else!”
Never say never with Steven Moffat but on this occasion, we’ll stick with a maybe.
