Has it really been 20 years since we first encountered Professor Bernice Summerfield, the sassy archaeologist that would help the Doctor out in so many ways during his adventures?
Before River Song, Bernice was the ultimate smart talking companion who drank too much and had the Doctor’s back at every turn but it’s still her first appearance in Love and War by Paul Cornell that everyone talks about, mainly because it’s brilliant!
Although the novel is now out of print, Big Finish will be releasing an updated version this year as a special recording to mark the two decades that have passed since Professor Summerfield came into our lives. Starring Sylvester McCoy as the Doctor, Sophie Aldred as Ace and Lisa Bowerman as Bernice Summerfield, it’s time for us all to wallow in some fantastic early 90’s Doctor Who (or what may have been had the series not been postponed in 1989).
If you pay a visit to Big Finish’s website as of now, you can listen to Love and War’s trailer, read the full synopsis of Jacqueline Rayner’s adaptation of Paul Cornell’s original novel and even take a gander at the wonderful cover illustration.
This is a big event for Big Finish and all of its listeners go and get involved!
Love and War is available to pre-order from www.bigfinish.com for £14.99 on CD or £12.99 via download and will be released later this year.
