David Morrissey Praises Matt Smith

While David Morrissey may have only appeared in one episode of Doctor Who in his acting career, but his appearance as Jackson Lake in The Next Doctor has been for many viewers an exceptional performance that remains etched in their memories since Christmas 2008.

Over the other side of the world in America, Morrissey is a big name, not only is he known for his Doctor Who work but he also has a large part in the third season of the hit television series The Walking Dead alongside British actor Andrew Lincoln. In a recent interview with website paranormalpopculture.com, Morrissey revealed that Doctor Who was every bit the success in America that it is in England, the actor also gave current Doctor Matt Smith the thumbs up for his performance in the role:

“He’s [Matt Smith] a really brave choice for them. There was lots of names around – and those were tough shoes to fill, David Tennant’s. You know what I mean? David Tennant really made it his own, and for Matt to come in and do that is something else … he’s the first [Doctor] to really break through in America.”

Doctor Who has certainly been increasing in popularity in America since its re-launch in 2005 and started becoming more popular during David Tennant’s five year reign. However, it’s only since Matt Smith and Steven Moffat took over the show that it’s really blasted off Stateside.

Let’s hope it does even better with next year’s episodes!

What happens when an eight year old kid watches the 1993 repeat run of Planet of the Daleks? He pretty much ends up here writing about the show that grabbed hold of him and never let go!
