The Rockland Public Library, Maine, will celebrate Doctor Who’s anniversary year with two special screenings this month.
The Sun Makers (1977), starring Tom Baker’s Fourth Doctor and Louise Jameson as Leela (with John Leeson as K9), will be aired on 14th February, and sees the Time Lord tackle the ‘Company,’ who rule over the overtaxed and desperate citizens of Pluto. It’s a satirical look at large conglomerates, written by the brilliant Robert Holmes, and directed by Pennant Roberts – the only person to direct Doctor Who in both the 1970s and 1980s!
On 21st February, the Rockland Public Library will screen Blink (2007), written by Steven Moffat, and starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor, Freema Agyeman as Martha and Carey Mulligan as Sally Sparrow. Aside from being voted second-best Doctor Who story by DWM readers in 2009, Blink is perhaps most-notable for its introduction to the Weeping Angels, now-iconic foes who have reappeared in tales like The Time of Angels/ Flesh and Stone (2010), 2011’s The God Complex and The Angels Take Manhattan (2012).
Both screenings are set to take place at 6:30pm – and viewers are warned not to blink!
