Daleks at Swansea’s Doctor Who Day

The BBC recently announced their plans to hold a three-day Doctor Who celebration in November 2013 for the show’s 50th anniversary. But they’re not the only ones coming up with fun plans for the Doctor’s biggest birthday so far…

A Doctor Who day has been announced to take place in Swansea’s Dylan Thomas Centre as part of the Dylan Thomas Festival on Saturday November 2nd and it’ll include one or two Daleks to help keep the crowds under control.

As well as Skaro’s finest, who are probably experiencing their biggest year in publicity bookings ever, the festival organisers are also lining up several Doctor Who experts to appear on the day to look back at the show’s rich history and also look ahead to its future as well. But that’s not enough for them, so they will also get a writer’s panel together and hold a children’s art workshop as well. It’s truly a day for all of the family to attend,!

Jo Furber, Swansea Council’s literature officer, talked about the plans:

Fifty years later, Doctor Who is not only still on TV, but it’s also become a beloved cultural icon, demonstrating a particular kind of very British science fiction…much content has been also been filmed in Swansea and the November event will strengthen our city’s proud links with the programme.

The Dylan Thomas Festival will take place between October 27th and November 9th 2013, you can keep up to date with information on their Doctor Who day by visiting the official website at http://www.dylanthomas.com/index.cfm?articleid=8653 .

What happens when an eight year old kid watches the 1993 repeat run of Planet of the Daleks? He pretty much ends up here writing about the show that grabbed hold of him and never let go!
