To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who and to entice newer viewers who may have only started watching the adventures of the Doctor from series 7 onwards (where have you all been? This has been going on for 50 years you know!), the company will release a selection on 3.75 inch characters to collect.

SFX Magazine was lucky enough to get their hands on a preview of one of the new models, a noble Ice Warrior, and it looks wonderful.

Character Options Brand Manager Mark Hunt gave an insight into the new range and what it meant for the consumer:

This is the 50th anniversary year of Doctor Who and we wanted to create something that was new for the brand and refresh our product offering, and create some demand amongst both avid collectors, fans and children… The new size also allows us to bring a more affordable price point that we would not be able to at this time with a 5-inch figure… in such a special year it was important that we cater for as many as possible.

The Ice Warriors aren’t the only menaces from the world of Doctor Who to be lovingly recreated in order to sit on your shelves; there will also be a Daleks, Cybermen and Weeping Angels as well. But that’s not enough for Character Options to offer us and so Hunt also teased that there is more to come in the anniversary year:

We also have some very special 50th Anniversary product for later in the year… but that is top secret!

Could we be getting some classic TARDIS consoles, a version of the Master’s TARDIS, Meglos even? Perhaps once the current run of Series 7 ends in May we’ll have more of an idea!

What happens when an eight year old kid watches the 1993 repeat run of Planet of the Daleks? He pretty much ends up here writing about the show that grabbed hold of him and never let go!
