I’ve been re-watching a lot of Chris Eccleston recently and, from Rose’s job to the weapons factory on Villengard to Number 10 Downing Street (!), it’s striking how unconcerned the Ninth Doctor is with Blowing Stuff Up.
He may well then have sympathised with York local Guy Fawkes, everyone’s favourite arsonist, and delighted in hearing that York Maze owner Tom Pearcy will be replacing the traditional effigy with a 12ft (4m) high Dalek. Reasons Pearcy,
Throughout the year at York Maze we have been staging events to mark the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who. The 6th Doctor, Colin Baker, was here in the summer to officially open the giant Dalek-shaped maze. We thought it would be fitting to end the year by giving the Daleks a good roasting.
The massive, wooden Skarosian was lifted into position on top of the giant 30ft (10m) high bonfire at York Maze, ready for York’s Bonfire Night celebrations on Tuesday 5th November. With the Dalek itself packed with pyrotechnics the evening promises to be… fantastic. You can see footage of the preparations on the York Press website.
