Tennant of Munich

David Tennant is currently enjoying the success of his new drama Single Father; and it seems that he’s being noticed more and more if rumour control is correct.

According to whoateallthepies.tv (thanks to information they borrowed from DavidTennantOnTwitter), the former Doctor is being eyed up to play an important role in a film called United, which is about the Munich air disaster of 1958.

For those who don’t know about the event (and that includes this me until I visited the font of all knowledge, Wikipedia) the following took place:

“The Munich air disaster took place on 6 February 1958, when British European Airways Flight 609 crashed on its third attempt to take off from a slush-covered runway at Munich-Riem Airport in Munich, West Germany. On board the plane was the Manchester United football team, nicknamed the “Busby Babes”, along with a number of supporters and journalists. 20 of the 44 people on board the aircraft died in the crash.

“The injured, some of whom had been knocked unconscious, were taken to the Rechts der Isar Hospital in Munich where 3 more died, resulting in a total of 23 fatalities with 21 survivors.”

Sounds like it’s going to be an upbeat film doesn’t it. Still, it should give Tennant the chance to wobble his bottom lip and suck in air through clenched teeth a lot!

James Strong, a well known director in the world of Doctor Who is set to helm the picture that is being co-funded by the BBC itself. A 2011 release in also indicated. As always, we’ll keep you updated with any further news.

What happens when an eight year old kid watches the 1993 repeat run of Planet of the Daleks? He pretty much ends up here writing about the show that grabbed hold of him and never let go!
