A Silurian, a maid and a Sontaran in the Doctor Who Christmas special "The Snowmen"

Millenium FX’s Kate Walshe at Galway Arts Centre

If you’re a young person with talent in writing, designing, illustrating or something else in a similar creative vein and are based in Ireland, then you may want to check out the Galway Arts Centre’s Cúirt Labs taking place on 27th April.

A Silurian, a maid and a Sontaran in the Doctor Who Christmas special "The Snowmen"

These labs will be an exploration for young and talented individuals to gain further knowledge on their chosen career path from others that have already walked down it. In fact, one of the guest speakers on the day will be Kate Walshe, a special effects expert who has not only produced special effects for Iron Maiden and Lady Gaga but is also the producer at Millennium FX and has done lots of work on Doctor Who (on episodes such as The Snowmen and The Rings of Akhaten, among others). On the day, Walsh will not only talk about her various roles but will also reveal how she advanced so well in her chosen career.

Also in attendance that day will be Marvel Comics artist Will Sliney and author Shelia Heti, and that’s only the activities in the morning! Following on in the afternoon will be several talks by two representatives from Red Bird Youth Collective, The Entrepreneurs of The Future, and Aviators of The Future who will talk about their current projects and will also hold an open discussion about pioneering and creative entrepreneurship.

If you’re young and talented, this is something that you should attend. You can do that by booking a ticket for only 10 Euros, you can either email [email protected] to request an application form for this or visit the website www.cuirt.ie  to download a copy.

This event takes place on April 27th and runs from 10.30am to 3.30pm. Advanced booking is essential.

What happens when an eight year old kid watches the 1993 repeat run of Planet of the Daleks? He pretty much ends up here writing about the show that grabbed hold of him and never let go!
