Fez’s Are Cool!

Online retailers are bracing themselves for an increase in Fez sales this Christmas as the Arabic headgear worn by the Eleventh Doctor becomes a more popular novelty choice!

If prices on Amazon are anything to go by, several online retailers are prepared for a bumper Christmas thanks to the red felt hat worn for just a few minutes in The Big Bang, the final episode of the 2010 series of Doctor Who.

For young kids, the fez might seem like a hilarious new example of milinery for the Time Lord – but as older viewers will recall, the Doctor hasn’t exactly been afraid of wearing a hat in the past.

Doctor Who - inspired by Tommy CooperThe First Doctor was regularly seen with a small black hat, while the Second Doctor was photographed donning a sort of tall stove-pipe hat. Most famous was the Fourth Doctor’s wide-brimmed floppy hat, although the Seventh and the Fifth Doctor’s hat of choice was a panama hat.

Again, older viewers will be aware that the Fez has a history all of its own in British comedy, most notably on the head of the legendary comedian Tommy Cooper.

Anyone getting a their own Fez this Christmas will therefore get twice the value, and twice the catchphrases:

“I wear a Fez now; Fez’s are cool.”

“Jus’ like that!
