    <span data-ft=”{"tn":"K"}”><span class=”UFICommentBody”>2015 Christmas Special.

After so many appearances as River, Alex Kingston finally has her name in the title sequence.

Among the guest stars is Little Britain’s Matt Lucas. Both Lucas and Peter Capaldi had been in the Paddington movie in 2014.

In just last month on the night before Face The Raven, Capaldi had appeared with Lucas’ Little Britain partner David Walliams (himself a Doctor Who guest star) in The Graham Norton Show.

The Twelfth Doctor gets to see River for the first time due to Nardole mistaken him to be the Surgeon and it took me a second viewing to notice that the real surgeon had briefly turned up not knowing what he was about to miss.

As it was mentioned by Flemming upon looking at her diary, this takes place for River shortly after The Angels Take Manhattan when she lost her parents.

River does not recognise the Doctor in his current form and so funny the Doctor trying to tell River who he is but she still wasn’t getting it.
With River expecting the Doctor not knowing that 12 is him it was funny that she gave him the code name of Damsel.
River had tasked Ramone in keeping an eye out for the Doctor by proving him with pictures of all the Doctor’s past selves. However for some reason the picture of Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor was not all that visible. One has to pause to have a proper look at him.

Still not knowing the Doctor is the Doctor, River takes him inside in the TARDIS and the Doctor was so unconvincing in faking his reaction to the TARDIS interior.

Quite spooky when Scratch says that the restaurant on the Harmony and Redemption was not a public place with the revelation that it was full of his people. This rather akin to a similar scene at Mancini’s in Deep Breath also written by showrunner Steven Moffat.

Upon meeting Scratch, River tells him to show him the money. “Show me the money” is the infamous line said by the Cuba Gooding Jr in Jerry Maguire. In fact it is almost a decade since Gooding himself got referenced by Jackie in Rise of the Cybermen in 2006.

Also in 2006 is Tooth and Claw which had a diamond being a key plot point and another diamond is the key plot point for The Husbands of River Song.

Quite heartwarming when River finally realises the Doctor is the Doctor after ranting about how he does whatever he likes and no way that he would be anywhere near her.

Good resolution which sees the Doctor and River getting away from the exploding restaurant and leading to their date at the Darillium.

Lovely scene at the Darillium especially at the Singing Towers.

The Doctor and River talked about the meaning of happily ever after and that bought to mind the movie Not Another Happy Ending the first post-Doctor Who work by Alex Kingston’s Doctor Who mother Karen Gillan.

As this could be their last time together the Doctor tells River that a night in Darillium lasts for 24 years making it a very long date. Sadly as Capaldi himself had said as Caecilius in The Fires of Pompeii, even the longest night has to come to an end.

Surprising seeing the caption at the end of “And they both lived happily ever after”.</span></span>

A promotional picture of The Husbands of River Song was on the cover of the Sydney Sunday Telegraph’s tv guide of December 20-26 2015 and had an interview with Peter Capaldi ahead of the broadcast of the said Christmas Special.

On working with Alex Kingston here, Capaldi said:
“I haven’t work with Alex at all and, of course, I was slightly intimidated because she’s a Doctor Who veteran: she’s worked with [previous Doctors] Matt Smith and David Tennant.

“But everyone kept saying, ‘You’ll love her, she’s absolutely lovely,’ and that proved to be the case.”

Capaldi was also asked how long he has left in playing the Doctor as he now approaches his third season.

“I take it as it comes. I really enjoy doing the show, and as long as people like me and want me to be in the role I’ll be happy to do it.”
